Who am I?
I’m Rachel Leventhal-Weiner. I balance the responsibilities associated with being a wife, parent, college professor turned policy analyst, storyteller, podcaster, sister, and friend with relative grace and poise (and lots of coffee). I am hopelessly devoted to my family and my work (in that order). Every workaholic needs some balance, so when I actually close the laptop, you can find me in the kitchen (making anything from scratch) or outside (making mischief with my daughters).
What are rogue cheerios, you ask?
My personal and professional lives are in constant competition for my attention. I can hardly control the spillover from one vein to another. As a dissertating graduate student (defended May 2013), I have spent a large chunk of time writing in social isolation. In the classroom, I engage students in discussions of social life to challenge their preconceived notions of others, pushing them to recognize and engage with inequality and social problems. And as a parent, I spend a large chunk of time seeing the very social norms and stereotypes I write about popping up in everyday life. Like rogue cheerios I find hidden in the crevices of the sofa or in the bottom of my work bag, life’s little spillovers have me constantly thinking and wondering.
This blog is a place to document, to write, to explore life’s little spillovers and give them some sociological spin.
Thank you for finding your way to Rogue Cheerios. I’m glad you’re here.

Hi Rachel! I thoroughly enjoy reading your hilarious blog and so have nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award because, let’s be honest, you are a versatile woman!
As long as you’ve been writing and as many followers as you have, you may have already received this award, but if not, congratulations! 🙂
